Putting People First: REAL Services Found A Trusted Partner In Wildman

For over 50 years, REAL Services has been dedicated to supporting seniors and the community through a meal delivery program and transportation services. Serving South Bend, Mishawaka, Granger, Osceola, and Elkhart, the nonprofit helps older adults stay independent, connected, and cared for.

Behind the scenes, reliable partners play a vital role, and for Director of Transportation and Nutrition, Crystal Hallwood, Wildman has become one of those trusted partners.

Service That Stands Out

Crystal’s first impression of Wildman came through her service representative, Joe.

“He is fantastic. He’s a hustler. He’s reliable, courteous, and on time. He takes the time to greet people and actually cares what our opinion is on the products we use,” she shared.

For her, Joe represents the very reason REAL Services continues to work with Wildman.

When concerns arose, Joe connected her with his manager, Ty, who helped find a flexible solution that fit REAL Services’ needs. That willingness to listen and adapt made a lasting impression.

Making A Difference Beyond Products

The relationship expanded when Wildman organized a day of service. A team of 15 employees spent hours cleaning, trimming, and refreshing the nonprofit’s grounds.

Volunteers even worked side by side with REAL Services staff to tackle tasks like cooler cleaning and parking lot maintenance.

“For us, every dollar goes toward food so we can serve as many people as possible,” Crystal explained. “We don’t have money for things like landscaping, so having Wildman show up and help was incredible.”

The Value of Communication and Care

Crystal praised Joe for always keeping her in the loop. If he has a planned absence, he lets her know in advance and introduces who will be covering his route. He also brings in new products to test, checks in on our needs regularly, and engages kindly with her team.

“It’s bigger than just mats or aprons,” she said. “It’s about service and attitude. That helps us maintain the clean environment and positive space we want to be in.”

REAL Services values working with local companies, even when the cost is sometimes slightly higher. Crystal believes the investment is worthwhile because it strengthens the community. 

“Supporting other local companies only makes our community stronger and builds a network,” she explained. “Local companies want to solve your problems, make sure needs are being met, and ensure you feel supported.”

When asked about the long-term value of working with Wildman, Crystal emphasized peace of mind. She never worries about whether the service will happen, whether products will meet expectations, or whether she can reach someone quickly.

“Anytime I’ve ever had to reach out, the answer has always been prompt,” she said.

“Absolutely. Our experience has been incredibly positive,” she said. And with a laugh, she added, “If you can give Joe a raise, you should.”
